Itinerary
Day 01:
- Arrive in Colombo and begin your journey through Sri Lanka’s rich landscapes as you travel in air-conditioned comfort to the ancient city of Anuradhapura.
Day 02:
- Get your cameras ready for a thrilling full-day safari in Wilpattu National Park, where leopards, elephants, buffalo, and countless bird species gather around natural lakes.
Day 03:
- Take in scenic beauty as your private driver/guide transports you at a relaxed pace to your selected accommodation in Wasgamuwa.
Day 04:
- Set off early for a private jeep safari in Wasgamuwa National Park. With luck, spot elusive leopards and a variety of endemic species in their natural setting.
Day 05:
- Drive through lush tea country on your way to Nuwara Eliya. Visit an indigenous village en route, where you’ll witness traditional Kiri Koraha dancing.
Day 06:
- Enjoy a guided half-day hike across Horton Plains National Park. Spot wildlife as you trek to Baker’s Falls and gaze over the edge of World’s End.
Day 07:
- Continue your adventure into the rainforest for a unique Eco-lodge stay deep within the Sinharaja or Deniya wilderness area.
Day 08:
- Hike through the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, a UNESCO biodiversity hotspot. After a day of wildlife and birdwatching, enjoy a second night in your jungle lodge.
Day 09:
- Visit the Elephant Transit Home and support orphaned elephant calves. In the afternoon, enjoy a thrilling safari in Uda Walawe National Park.
Day 10:
- Drive south to Tissamaharama or Yala. Choose to take an optional afternoon safari into Yala National Park, famed for its wildlife diversity.
Day 11:
- Experience a full-day wildlife safari in Yala National Park, home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and one of the world’s highest leopard densities.
Day 12:
- A morning jeep safari to Bundala National Park brings you face to face with vibrant migratory birdlife. Spend your afternoon at leisure or revisit Yala.
Day 13:
- Travel along the southern coast. Visit stilt fishermen, a traditional mask workshop, Galle Fort, or a Turtle Hatchery before heading to Katunayake or Negombo.
Day 14:
- Reflect on two incredible weeks of adventure and unforgettable wildlife encounters as your journey ends and you head to the airport for your flight home.
Day 1 – Anuradhapura
Welcome to your Sri Lanka Wildlife Adventure! Your personal chauffeur/guide will greet you at Bandaranaike International Airport. Relax as you journey approximately 5 hours through lush scenery to the historic city of Anuradhapura in the North Central Province. Upon arrival, check in to your comfortable hotel and unwind after your flight.
Day 2 – Anuradhapura
Wildlife stirs early, and so will you! Depart at 5:00 AM for a full-day safari in Wilpattu National Park, home to Sri Lanka’s largest population of leopards. The park’s natural lakes—or “willus”—attract elephants, sloth bears, buffalo, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. Enjoy a full day immersed in nature, returning to your hotel by evening.
Day 3 – Wasgamuwa
After breakfast, journey south to Wasgamuwa on a 4 to 4.5 hour scenic drive. Along the way, your guide can stop at photo-worthy spots, perhaps even catching glimpses of elephants along the roadside. Arrive and check in to your hotel with time to relax before tomorrow’s adventure.
Day 4 – Wasgamuwa
Rise early to enter Wasgamuwa National Park at dawn, before the day’s visitors arrive. Spend the full day on safari with a picnic lunch included. The park is known for its elusive leopards, elephants, monkeys, and endemic bird species. Return to your hotel for a restful evening, perhaps sharing sightings with fellow travelers.
Day 5 – Nuwara Eliya
Enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast before departing to Nuwara Eliya, a journey of 5 to 5.5 hours. Stop at the Dambana Vedda Village, home to Sri Lanka’s indigenous people. Learn about their lifestyle and experience the mesmerizing Kiri Koraha dance, performed to honor nature. Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and settle into your hotel nestled in the misty tea hills.
Day 6 – Nuwara Eliya
Embark on a guided morning hike through Horton Plains National Park. Spot Sambar deer and keep an eye out for rare species like Toque Macaques, Giant Squirrels, and possibly the Horton Plains Slender Loris. The trail includes Baker’s Falls and the dramatic drop at World’s End. Return to your hotel and relax.
Day 7 – Sinharaja or Deniyaya
After breakfast, drive 5.5 to 6 hours to your eco-lodge in Sinharaja or Deniyaya. Your accommodation places you deep in a UNESCO World Heritage rainforest. Listen to the calls of the wild as you unwind in this tranquil, biodiverse paradise.
Day 8 – Sinharaja or Deniyaya
Visit the Elephant Transit Camp, a true conservation project that rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves for release into the wild. Then, continue to Uda Walawe National Park for an afternoon safari where you may see herds of elephants and wetland birds. Stay overnight in Embilipitiya or Uda Walawe after a 2.5–3 hour drive.
Day 9 – Embilypitiya or Uda Walawe
Visit the Elephant Transit Camp, a true conservation project that rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves for release into the wild. Then, continue to Uda Walawe National Park for an afternoon safari where you may see herds of elephants and wetland birds. Stay overnight in Embilipitiya or Uda Walawe after a 2.5–3 hour drive.
Day 10 – Thissamaharamaya or Yala
After breakfast, drive southeast (approx. 2.5–3 hours) to Tissamaharama or Yala. Spend the afternoon relaxing at your hotel or opt for a safari in Yala National Park, famous for its rich biodiversity including elephants, leopards, and over 200 bird species.
Day 11 – Thissamaharamaya or Yala
Begin your full-day Yala safari with a 5:00 AM departure. Bring along your packed meals and enjoy peak hours for wildlife viewing and photography. Expect sightings of elephants, sloth bears, wild buffalo, monkeys, and—if lucky—leopards. Return to your hotel to relax after a full day in the wild.
Day 12 – Thissamaharamaya or Yala
Another early start takes you to Bundala National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Witness large flocks of migratory birds like flamingos, ibis, and spoonbills during a morning jeep safari. Return late morning for a restful afternoon or opt for another trip into Yala.
Day 13 – Katunayaka or Negombo
Head north toward Katunayaka or Negombo (4 to 4.5 hours). Optional stops include seeing Weligama’s iconic stilt fishermen, exploring historic Galle Fort, meeting mask makers in Ambalangoda, or releasing baby turtles at a Turtle Hatchery conservation center. Arrive in the afternoon and relax at your hotel.
Day 14 – Airport
